Behind the façade of the Hôtel Caraman, at 3 Avenue Georges V in Paris, sits the Givenchy Haute Couture atelier. Hubert de Givenchy moved into this historic mansion in 1959, a few years after opening his namesake house.
Having learned his craft by working for two celebrated couturiers of the time, Jacques Fath and Elsa Schiaparelli, he passed down a unique know-how to his artisans, some of whom still continue, thirty years after the founder’s retirement, to perpetuate his tradition within the House’s atelier. Haute Couture creations are produced in this intimate setting, with meticulous attention to detail. In a feat of passion and patience, highly qualified artisans seek solutions with scientific precision. This pieces are sewn entirely by hand, requiring hundreds and sometimes thousands of hours of work.
